Spread the word
As with all marketing, you need to have as many strands to your internet promotional strategy as possible.
Google Adwords is the ideal way to get traffic to your site quickly but costs money. We believe strongly that, in most cases, you'll need an adwords strategy of some sort to promote your site but it needs to be supported by Search Engine Optimisation.
Once your Adwords and SEO is properly set up, you should be looking at other ways of getting your site noticed. Each of these is free except that they take time.
There is nothing worse than a blog that's never updated so only take on what you're prepared to contribute to regularly over the long term.
Blogs
In case you don't know, "blog" is short for "web-log" and many are nothing more than rambling diaries of the petty goings-on of their writers. From a marketing point of view, these blogs are pointless.
A business blog should be written about topics that relate to your business. Blogs are a way of giving useful information to your potential and current clients. By doing this, you establish yourself as an expert in your field in the eyes of your audience. As long as your blog is interesting, regularly updated and contains information that your audience might find difficult to obtain elsewhere
Setting up a blog
There are number of providers of free blogs. My favourite is Wordpress (www.wordpress.com). With these providers, the blog itself is hosted with them.
However, from the point of view of Search Engine Optimisation, it's a much better idea to have the blog hosted on your own site. That way, the search engines will index the content of your blog when they index your pages. If your blog is closely focused on what your company does, this will improve your search engine ranking.
We can do this for you as part of a website build or upgrade.
Social Networking
If you have a MySpace or Facebook page then, by all means, use them to promote your business. Again, it's only worth doing this if you're going to keep it regularly updated and if it's likely to attract the sort of people who could reasonably become your clients.
If you don't have the first idea about Social Networking then don't worry: you'd be better off concentrating on Adwords, SEO and blogging.
Squidoo
Squidoo is a service that allows people to create web pages on specific topics. Once everything else is done, it's well worth creating a Squidoo page to promote your business.
